How is our Concussion Rehabilitation program covered?

Concussion Rehabilitation services are not covered under OHIP. But they will likely be covered under your private physiotherapy insurance. If your insurer requires one, ask your doctor for a “Concussion Physiotherapy” referral.

You will receive a receipt when you have paid for an assessment or treatment. You can then use this receipt to claim these costs from your insurer.

Who would benefit from our Concussion Rehabilitation program?

Concussion Rehab is appropriate for anyone needing Sports Concussion treatment or anyone who has the lingering physical symptoms associated with a Concussion from any other source (e.g. sports, motor vehicle or home accidents). Concussion Rehab can help with the following physical symptoms:

  • Headaches
  • Nausea
  • Fatigue
  • Vertigo
  • Dizziness
  • Balance issues
  • Vision problems
  • Noise sensitivity
  • Mental fogginess
  • Sleep disturbances

Who would not benefit from our Concussion Rehabilitation program?

Individuals with the following are not candidates for Concussion Rehab:

  • Moderate to severe brain injury
  • Symptoms that are mainly non-physical (i.e. emotional or psychological issues)

What is our Concussion Rehab procedure?

Making an accurate diagnosis is very important for a successful concussion treatment program. A complete assessment includes a detailed history and physical examination. Concussion Rehab treatments include Manual Therapy and customized exercises (both at home & in-clinic). Acupuncture may also be helpful.

How long does our Concussion Rehabilitation program last?

The initial concussion treatment assessment takes about 1 hour. After that, the number of sessions depends on the severity of the concussion.

What can I expect to feel during and after this Concussion Rehab assessment?

For a period after the assessment you may experience increased symptoms. For this reason, it is important to have someone drive you home or to take a taxi.

How do I get started with this Concussion Rehabilitation program?

Your insurer may or may not require a referral from your doctor. Regardless, it is very important that you also consult your family doctor at the same time as you Contact Us.
